ISSC03 - Pot of Love

Hi everybody! As the post is going live, I'm currently traveling down to Seattle to take part in an annual pajama crop with this group of special ladies:
Angela, Tobi, Laurel and myself will be driving down on Thursday and will be coming back most likely changed people after the event! I'm telling you that some of these ladies are crazy! But I know that we are in for a boatload of fun and some perma-grin :D

...And now back to your regular programming :D This is the card that I made to feature one of Sean Fetterman's cards for the ISSC03 challenge at the iSpy Sketches blog. I used and oldie but a goodie stamp from Clear Dollar Stamps called Bless my Bloomers which was a set that I illustrated :D I watercoloured it with tombows, shaded it with chalks, coloured the grass with prismas and then sponged it with inks :D

I have to admit that I did struggle with the sketch a bit simply because the images that I wanted to colour up for the card were all too big. In the end, I love how the card turned out! If you would like to join along in the challenge, please visit me and the rest of the Special Agents over at the iSpy Sketches Challenge blog :) Hope to see you there!

PS: What do you think of the facelift here at Paper in the Works? I have been flu ridden this past week so I decided to play around and came up with this design in between coughing, sneezing, and whining ;)

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps - Bless my Bloomers
Paper: Gina K, Water Colour, Espresso, Misc Designer Papers
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Mustard, Banana, Caramel, Suede
Accessories: Cuttlebug and Embossing Folders, Clear Embossing Powder, Spellbinders, Brads, Mat Pack, MS Heart Punch, Chalks, Tombow Dual Brush Pens, Water Brush, Prisma's and Gamsol, Corner Chomper, Sponges, Sewing Machine, Ribbon

CDS Sneak Peek - Welcome to Parenthood

Welcome back to day 3 of the CDS sneak peeks and to parenthood! Confused about the last part? No problem! Let me fill you in ;) One of the sets used in this card is the one that I am previewing today and it's called Welcome to Parenthood :) It's one of the newest in my Dreamtime Design line and I hope that you will like this sentiment set as much as I do! To see the entire set, please click here and scroll down.

How true is this comment? In fact my kiddo's were testing this theory earlier today with my hubby *snicker*

I paired my new set up with another set from Clear Dollar Stamps called Deer Season. I took the tree and coloured on with with my tombow markers and then misted it with a spray bottle full of water to create this "faux watercolour" kind of look. I then added some really soft sponging around the edges of my nestie to soften the look and then contiued on with the blues and greens with the rest of the card :o)

Hope you liked this card and don't forget to pop by the blogs below to see all of the fabulous creations that were made with the new sets that will be released on November 1st! Wanna know what else is coming on November 1st? The Great Candy Caper - that's what!!!!!

A Peony for You...

Yes, I admit...I have been neglectful! I have been crazy busy once again and this poor blog got pushed by the wayside in the process! So to apologize for being a bad blogger, I have a short post and a pretty peony to show you ;0)

I have been a busy lady getting all my ducks in a row for teaching over at My Creative Classroom! It's been fabulous so far, but an incredible learning experience for this somewhat easily dumbfounded individual! lol

Over the past few weeks I have been learning to use all kinds of funky software that I hadn't dared to use before, because let's face it people...who actually likes to sit down and be baffled by new programs unless they have too? *wink* Needless to say that I have now figured out the software and may even have a video tutorial or two up my sleeve for next month! I know that you are all waiting with bated breathe! hehehehe

Did I also mention that I'm going to be an auntie again? No? Hmmm ...I must have forgotten to mention that somewhere along the lines while I wasn't posting and being a bad blogger! My sister in law is now 7 days over due and we are waiting for my sweet little niece to make her grand appearance, but not nearly as much as her over due mommy! lol I personally think that she's holding out so that she can enjoy a turkey dinner :o) I will let you all know when she's here and may even have a picture or two by then...I will keep you posted!

Ahem, now that I've bored you with what's going on with me...let's get back to that pretty peony that I don't have any more pictures of! lol

This card was made for the June Dirty Dozen gallery and was made with one of my very first Illustrations called Peony. The peony was stamped with Versa Mark onto watercolour paper and heat embossed with a half and half mixture of Ranger Gold Tinsel and Gold Embossing Powders (a tip that I learned from Jerri Kay). I watercoloured it using a waterbrush and Tombow Markers and then cut "out of the box" style and paper toled so that it looks more realistic. The image is so sparkly in real life due to the embossing powder mixture! I then just played with some shapes of designer paper to come up with this layout. I used up some scraps of ribbon that I was lucky enough to have matched it up to some designer paper and added the pearls to balance out the card.

Thanks for being such understanding readers that know how sometimes life gets in the way crafts!...I try not to let it happen but sometimes I lose and life just budges in and takes over! ;0)

Just a reminder for anyone who is interested in taking the Watercolouring with Tombow Markers Class with moi ...the final day for registration is October 9th, so don't miss out!

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps - Peony
Paper: Gina K, Caramel, Watercolour, K&Co DP, Basic Grey DP, Karen Foster DP
Ink: Versa Mark, Caramel
Accessories: Sewing Machine, Sponges, Dimensionals, Ribbon, Half Pearls, Aqua Painter, Tombow Markers, Ranger Gold Tinsel and Gold Embossing Powder

CDS Sneak Peek - Winged Whispers

Phew! Here we are at the final day of the CDStamps sneak peeks and I just have one more set to show you! It's called Winged Whispers and it's my other new release in the Dreamtime Designs line for the month of October :) This set has some really beautiful sentiments in it as well as 4 different birds: a cardinal, a kingfisher, a sparrow and a robin. To see a picture of the full set, please click here.

I love the fact that this is the final card that I get to show you for this set of releases! It's the first time that I have tried to make a tent topper card and I combined it really some really subdued colours. I wanted to make my beautiful blue kingfisher really pop so I sponged in some inks to create a graduated pastel background.

The bird was watercoloured with my tombow markers and aqua painter. I then cut out the wings and popped them up to create a more realistic bird. We have so many of these lovely creatures around here that I wanted to immortalize one onto a stamp :)

Thanks so much for coming by to see all of the cards that I have been busily working on. All of the stamps that I have shown you will be available on October 1st. Don't forget to pop by the blogs below to see what the other girls have been creating :)

CDS Sneak Peek - Dog Days

Yay! It's finally time to show you one of my newest sets! I have to admit that I really have a special fondness for this sweet little cutie, after all she's modeled after my 17 year old English Cocker Spaniel, Olivia (Bitty Bits is her nickname). This set is called Dog Days and it has some fun sentiments, 2 dogs and a doghouse, as well as a few doggie accessories ;) You can see the full set over on Lori's Blog.

I watercoloured the dog with my Tombow Markers and Aqua Painter and then sponged in the cloud scene. I added the second layer to pop up the dog and make her 3D. Just a reminder for those of you that are interested in learning to use Tombow Markers, the online class that I am teaching over at My Creative Classroom is starting this Thursday! I'm soooo excited! :) Ahem, now back to your regular scheduled programming ;0)

As you can see by the picture above...I got a little crazy with my cuttlebug! I'm pretty sure that I was busy singing along to my favourite tunes instead of monitoring my over use of embossing folders and embellishments. Oh well, where this card is concerned...I guess anything goes! lol

CDS Sneak Peek - At the Races

Welcome back for day 2 of the Clear Dollar Stamps sneak peeks! This cute set is called At the Races and is my other new illustrated set for September. My son has a HUGE love of race cars...well pretty much anything that has wheels and makes noise, so I figured that there were other race car fans out there somewhere too :)

This card was a combined challenge card for the CDS DT and it follows the sketch and colour challenges (orange and blue) that we were given. The race car was watercoloured with tombow markers, paper toled and then placed on top of my sponged background with dimensionals.

I got a little busy adding different threads for stitching and I'm pretty sure that just changing the bobbins and thread colours alone to me longer to do than make the actual card! lol Most of the Basic Grey Ambrosia DP's were cuttlebugged and some of the layers were popped up with more dimensionals.

Thanks for popping by to see my new set, but don't forget to visit the rest of the blogs below to see all of the fabulous new stamps that are being shown today. All the sets that are being previewed will be available on September 1st. Happy hopping :)

CDS Sneak Peek - Hockey Time

Whoa have I been busy and very neglectful of my poor blog. I just finished wrapping up my final Dirty Dozen Gallery *sniff* and have now get to sit back, relax and take on the roll of Dirty Dozen Alumni :) I'm also working on a rather large project at the moment and I will spill that secret on September 1st, so stay tuned! Right now I bring you day one of the Clear Dollar Stamps sneak peeks (by the way, have you seen the yummy new store yet?). This set is one of my newest and is called Hockey Time. It will be available on September 1st along with many more wonderful sets that you are sure to see in the next 4 days of CDS previews!

This card was made for two of our monthly DT challenges - No Designer Paper and Distressing. I used a fabulous tutorial that I saw over at SCS to create the Recessed Frame to showcase my Team Canada Jersey (or my rendition of it anyway) lol. For all of my American peeps, I included a star in the set too so that you could make a Team USA Jersey :)

I tried to create this set for all of those Hockey lovers out there...including my husband and daughter. This is perfect for anyone who plays hockey, or just loves it in general :) Be sure to pop by everyone's blogs to see all of the new sets that are being previewed today and I *think* there might even be a girly jersey and a NHL jersey to be spotted in the bunch :)

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps - Hockey Time
Paper: Gina K, Basic Black, Riding Hood Red, Watercolour
Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, Creamy Caramel, More Mustard, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgundy

CDS Sneak Peek - Pansy

Wowee! It's early in the morning here and it's already hot and toasty! Seems like quite a few of you are experiencing the heat wave with me, but we are at record highs for us! The heat and I don't get along very well so I may just camp out in the air conditioning here for a bit and then head out to do some shopping...in air conditioned stores *grin*

Welcome back for day three of the CDStamps sneak peeks. I have a gorgeous pansy to show you this morning ... but a very troublesome pansy in the end! This pansy set is one of my newest illustrations and will be available on August 1st with all the rest of the loveliness that I have been sharing with you the last couple of days. This pansy though...what a test of patience!

Let me just start by telling you a little bit about how I watercolour. I always pick out my shades of colours, test them to see that they will work with each other and then set them aside in groupings ie: petals, leaves and flower centers so I know what I will be working with. It's all fun and games until you get sidetracked and accidentally grab a fluorescent pink instead of a light mauve...after you have already spent the time and coloured up your first layer! So then I spent literally hours trying to correct it with a number of different shades...when I say a number, I really mean 17 other shades only to find out in the end ... after much frustration ...that a combination of 5 other colours came out to the same as my first layer of the pansy! The moral of the story is this: If you get sidetrack and paint with the wrong colour...scrap the original and start from scratch! lol

So enough about the trials of achieving the perfect shades and onto the rest of the card. Dont'cha just love this quote? I do and that's why it's in the set! lol I paired it up with another sentiment in this set for the inside of the card to read "Missing You".

This card is actually 4x6" and worked really well to highlight the off set pansy. To achieve the airbrushed look on the nesties die cut, I used the actual die to mask off the edges and then sponged very gently toward the center of the paper with creamy caramel ink - I just love the vintage look! My butterfly has been made but punching out vellum cardstock with my Martha Stewart butterfly punch and then used some mini pearls to create the body. A little cuttlebug embossing and some more sponging and you have a very elegant "Missing You" card :)

That's it for this morning's eye candy, but don't forget to pop back here later today to see the last creation of the day which is one of my new sets :0) See you then!

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps - Pansy
Paper: Gina K, Always Artichoke, Watercolour, Misc. DP, Vellum Cardstock

Accessories: Sewing Machine, Cuttlebug and Embossing Folders, Nestabilites, Marth Stewart Butterfly Punch, Fisgars Border Punch, Corner Rounder, Mini Pearls, Sponges, Dimensionals, Gold Embossing Powder, Mat Pack and Piercing Tool, Tombow Markers and Aqua Painter

CDS Sneek Peek - Sails, Subs and Tugs

I love this set! It's called Sails, Subs and Tugs and was mostly inspired by some of the toys that my kid's play with in the bath tub. I am always on the look out for little boy sets so I decided to create a couple of my own this month ;) With living on an Island, my kids love to visit the waterfront with all the boats and anything that floats is always popular with little boys! lol

I watercoloured the Tug with my Tombow Markers and Aqua painter and then popped parts of it up on dimensionals. I then watercoloured the ocean and sky with some of my SU re-inkers and added some sponging and Liquid Applique to finish of the main image.

If you look close enough you can see that I played around and made some waves with my designer paper and did this using my slit punch. I also embossed and layered them on top of each other and then sewed them to a larger panel to create a little back drop with these gorgeous Cosmo Cricket DP's.

Be sure to hop around on the Design Team's blogs below so that you don't miss any of the sneak peek goodness! Don't forget to pop back in here tomorrow to see what other goodies we have for you :)

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Clear Dollar Stamps - Sails, Subs and Tugs

CDS Sneak Peek - Bitty Bots

This is card number 2 for today and this sweet set is called Bitty Bots and is one of my newest stamp illustrations. This set will be available on August 1st and was designed with little boys in mind because my little man Tait (5 years old) told me that we needed more robots in the house. I was thinking robot maids... he was thinking Transformers... so we sat down and had a heart to heart and came to a mutual agreement, that robot stamps really were the best thing for the Teasdale household. *grin*

This card has quite a few metalic looking things on it - this is what happens when you have your 5 year old standing in your craft room trying to see all of your things. Actually, it's what happens when your 5 year old is spilling embellishments on the floor and your just to busy to put them in their correct place :)

First off we have some tin foil that has been secured to a piece of card stock and run through my cuttlebug for the background. This worked out pretty well as the cardstock that it was secured to holds the embossed shapes from getting squished flat by pressure. Then I added numerous bits of metal around the card with all the brads, metal swirl clip and if you look closely you can see that I added a metal antena on top of the robot's head. This card is a regular metal scrap heap! *wink*

Thanks for popping in to see mine and my 5 year old's creation and be sure to hop around on the Design Team's blogs below so that you don't miss any of the sneak peek goodness! Don't forget to pop back here to see some the last creation of the day!

Dare to Get Dirty with Me!

Today is another sample from me for the Fan Club Dare to Get Dirty Challenges :) This one is for the DTGDblondie090277 Challenge - that's right! I'm hosting and this is your Paper Tole challenge! Muahahahaha! You knew coming from me that it wouldn't be so easy peasy didn't you? *insert wicked grin here*

For the image, I heat embossed the dalia with gold embossing powders and then watercoloured all the layers with my Tombow Markers and Aqua Painter. I wanted to fit in the coordinating sentiment from my Summer Blooms Dahlia set, so I went on the hunt for the perfect layout. I used last week's sketch challenge from my good friend Wendy's new challenge blog called Delightful Sketches and my paper toled dahlia fit beautifully as the center piece. :)

Don't forget to pop into the Fan Club Challenge Forum to see all of the day's challenges. They will be posted every hour from July 23-25th with a different hostesses and tons of fabulous samples :) I can't wait to see all of your paper tole creations *wink*

A couple of naked...

...Cards! And what were you thinking? Dirty Birdies! lol

Tonight I decided to try my hand at some clean and simple all occasion cards. I love clean and simple cards. I really do, but you would never know it because I don't ever make them. Why? Because it takes a master to pull together an elegantly designed card without it looking...well, naked! lol

I admire people for things that I cannot do or struggle with severely. Clean and simple card artisans are on the top of my list tonight! Would you believe me if I told you that this simple card took me at least an hour longer to make than my regular whole shebang style of cards? It was crazy I tell you! It's like I was hypnotized by all of the blank white space, and all I could think of is the various tools and embellishments within my reach to grab but the gravitational pull of this card wouldn't let my hand stray to any would be additions.

So here I am with my cards. The look like the need a little something. Pearls? Stitching? More layers? They seem kind of flat and lacking in texture. Hmph. Decisions, decisions. What is a girl to do?

I think that I will make a rational decision and sleep on it...or sleep on my hands so that they don't reach the embellies and thwart my attempt at a couple of clean and simple cards! I feel strong, and I know that I can do this.

Just say "no".

I see you, luscious embellishments and hear your evil whispers.

I will ignore you...

...I'm coming sweet luscious embellies! Wait and then throw yourselves all over theses naked cards! Do your magic and make them shine....er....

bad, bad thoughts.

Evil embellishments.

La la laa laaa.

I'm ignoring you... *grin*
