Teacher Appreciation Apple Box

I know. I'm a little early for teacher appreciation gifts but ...I made this box for a tutorial that I put together over for my Dollar Find Friday post over at the TSG Blog but didn't a chance to post it here. So here it is in all of it's appley goodness :)

I water coloured the school house with my Tombow Markers and then placed it on a sponged background for the main panel. The school house and sentiments are from one of the There She Goes newer releases called Believe in You. The box is something that Angela and I found at our Dollarama, along with the foam brushes and acrylic paint for the wooden box.

I thought that this box would look really sweet filled with teacher supplies like pencils, rubber bands, paper clips, erasers or some really yummy goodies like chocolate or candies. When I give this to one of the sweet ladies who teaches my children, I'm going to wrap it up in clear cellophane and attach a big lime green bow :D

Getting Dirty with Holly

Today, I am thrilled to bring you a sample that I make for the ever talented Holly McMillan's (Toy's - DTGD10Toy) challenge for Dare to Get Dirty week! Holly is such a sweetheart and I was positively tickled when she asked me to be a sample maker :D




I used my favourite My Favorite Things set called Feelin' Fruity to create this "berry" delicious gift set. I took the opportunity to use up some excess scraps from my bin and pulled together this set that holds strawberry hard candies including the berries in the basket. I purchased the basket pattern from here.




The strawberry blossom that is on both the basket and the bag, was make with my boho blossom punch and my 5 petal flower punch for the leaves.

Flowers Forever

It's been awfully quiet around the my blog this month! This month has been pretty hectic for myself and my family so I didn't even realize that I haven't updated my blog for awhile! Oops! So today I am bringing you a project that I made last May for the Dirty Dozen Gallery - Art for Every Woman.

I actually made this as a keepsake for me! After all...what woman doesn't love flowers, especially ones that don't die? ;)

I adore Victorian and antique everything. I stumbled across this pewter frame at my local thrift store and although it isn't an antique, I knew that it had potential to be really beautiful. I cleaned the frame and added some half pearls to decorate the frame and then took the glass out and tossed it aside. The mustard coloured oval behind the flower was stamped with flowers and embossed and then sponged with mustard and caramel inks. I then took my paintbrush and blended all of the colours together to create a smooth backdrop. I water coloured the flower and paper toled it so that it really pops out of the frame (the glass is not in the frame). This is quite a simple little project is such a lovely little keepsake ;)

CDS Sneak Peek - Bob and Fred

Meet Bob and Fred! These little fellows decided to take a little vacation to come and visit Clear Dollar Stamps, but they loved it there so much that they decided to stay :) They are ready to send off clones to your doorstep starting December 1st because they are suffering some severe jet lag and need to rest up ;) These cuties have been brought to you by popular demand and are the perfect size to coordinate with their buddies from the Lost in Space set.



These guys make the perfect adornment for this CD Pocket gift card. As you can see they are like chameleons and can blend well with any colour *giggle*. CDS Sneak Peek - Mr. Spike Doghouse Ornament

*Giggle* I love how this ornament turned out! For the December release stamps over at Clear Dollar Stamps we were challenged to make some gift ideas or 3D items and this is what I came up with! I used both the Mr. Spike (the bulldog) and the "You make me smile" stamps that will be released on December 1st to get in the holiday spirit to create and unusual ornament for the Christmas tree.




I started by water colouring Mr. Spike with my tombow markers and making him pop by creating a paper tole mouth. I then created the dog house ornament by using the sweet birdhouse template that Nichole Heady provided on her blog. I assembled the template and then paper pieced my faux wood planks on the walls of the house and the layers of shingles for the roof. For the finishing touches I added some olive card stock that was cut with my craft knife to look like blades of grass and the linen thread to hand the ornament from the Christmas tree.

CDS Sneak Peek - T-Rex Gift Card Holder

It's that most wonderful time of the month again for some Clear Dollar Stamps sneek peeks! This little cutie is called Teeny T-Rex and has the "something to roar about" sentiment to coordinate. These little single stamps will be available for December 1st.

We were challenged this month to some up with some 3D items that would make some sweet give ideas for Christmas. I found this little 7 gypsies tin on clearance at Michaels and altered it to be a gift card/money tin for a child and can then be used after to store some treasures in :) My kids have alread tried to run away with it on more than a few occasions! lol




The T-Rex has been water coloured with my tombow markers, cut out and added to some sponged circle punches. I then added some fun googly eyes and placed the image onto the blue belly band for the tin. To open this up you just slide off the belly band and open up the tin from there.

Hanging out the holidays with the Dirty Girls and ornaments too!

Hey everyone! Long time, no posts! I'm back and I can explain!

4 weeks ago, my trusty laptop (my beloved laptop) started developing a mind of it's own and crashing on a regular basis. Ordinarily, that wouldn't have been such a large issue but this was happening while I was teaching my online classes and therefore couldn't send in my computer for repairs.

I grinned and beared it until the last upload into my classrooms when all of a sudden my computer crashed and burned and decided to play coy and not start up again. Frustrated and disheartened I finally decided that it was time to send her in for an exorcism ;)

That brings me to why I have been unexplainably absent from answering emails, posting and well...life in general. You really don't realized how much you depend on your computer daily until it's in the hands of someone else! I have managed to borrow my dad's laptop while getting caught up on my workload (all due to not having internet access for a week).

This all brings me to today...I will be getting my laptop back in a few hours and hopefully she will purr like a kitten ;) To celebrate I decided to share with you a little something that I have been working on - well two things actually! The first being the Christmas ornament that I created for the November Dirty Dozen challenge of Hanging out the Holiday's with Ornaments :)

Both the Dirty Dozen and the Dirty Dozen Alumni get together once a month when we have some time and participate in a challenge just for fun. This month was my turn to be the hostess so I thought it would be fun to challenge the girls to create and ornamet for ANY holiday of the year including obscure ones. The only stipulation was that the ornament had to hang from something. That turned out to be quite a challenge when taking pictures at 1 am and needing to use a small lightbox! My ornament does actually hang, but it's hanging rather gently from a glue dot affixed to the back wall of my light box...the things I do to try to get to bed quickly I tell you ;)

This ornament was created using a stamp set that I picked up from Walmart for $5! What a steal! The poinsettia is actually quite large and it came with some holly leaves and a "For You" sentiment :0) I was quite happy to stumble upon this find that's for sure! I water coloured up this baby with my tombow markers and an aqua painter and then assembled this ornament following the instructions on Yvonne's Blog. - Um, if you haven't seen YvonneAna's work, then you haven't lived! She's amazing!!! Thanks Yvonne for sharing your gorgeous creation for me to case ;)

The last thing that I wanted to share with you was an exciting tid bit of info. Heather from Skipping Stones Designs has asked me to be her guest sketch artist for the month of December. The sketches will be found on her website every tuesday and I will be featuring her very sassy stamps. I hope you all will join me for that fun little adventure!

Butterfly Explosion Box

Oooh...Ahhhh...Isn't this beautiful? I won't have to tell you twice how impressed I was when I was able to create something that might come close to some of the amazing creations on the Magic Boxes website! I did this project way back in April for the Dirty Dozen Gallery - Going Green. The box was created for our inspiration piece because of the bright green grass and blue skies :) I found the tutorial for this box with different measurements here.




When I made the box from the tutorial it was a little small for what I needed it to be, so I ended up altering the measurements. This particular box stands finished at 3 3/4" x2 1/2".

Here are the measurements that I used to make this fun box:
Start with a 10" square for the base and score at 3 3/4" all the way around the out side. For the lid, I adjusted the measurements to a 4 5/8" Square scored at 1" all the way around.

The largest decorated panels are 3 1/2"x 1 1/4"
The base decorated square on the inside of the box is 2 1/4" square
The decorated panel on the top of the box is 2 3/8" square.
The rectangular panels of the edge of the lid are 3/4"x 2 1/8"

To decorate the panels I used a combination of stamps, sponges and inks. I love the bold statement that the Sponged Background adds to the box :) It truly adds a serene feel with colours that pop and draw attention to the 3D butterfly perched on top kind of like a bow *grin*
This kind of card is really a present in it's own but you could add a little treasure inside the box as well.

Speaking of treasures...guess who I finally got to meet the other day? If you read my blog last week, you would know that I was patiently waiting to me this sweet little girl :)




This beautiful baby made me an aunt for the second time on October 10th after being 11 days over due. She wasn't even an hour old when this picture was taken and I was the one snuggling her at the time :) Miss Makena Alexis was named for the beach that her parents got married at just a little under a year ago on Maui and for her own mama's middle name :) I'm so excited to be an auntie again so I wanted to share with you all too *wink*

CDS Sneak Peek - Winter Eskimo Box

I'm back after a refreshing day of doing nothing but playing with my kids and all of their new toys :) I can't remember the last time I had such a rip roaring game of Hungry, Hungry Hippos! lol I hope that everyone had a fabulous holiday with their loved ones and were extra spoiled by the big guy in red!

Now that Christmas is over and where does that leave most of the population of North America? - In the snow of course! So keeping with the positively Arctic weather that we seem to be experiencing, I thought that I would show you this delightful box that I made.



Yes folks...it's that wonderful time of the year again - Clear Dollar Stamps sneak peek time! Yay! I have been sitting on these top secret projects for the last couple of weeks just bursting to show you :) This is a brand new set called Winter Eskimo due to be released on January 1/09. I was giddy when I saw this set for the first time! I had sooooo many ideas floating around in my head with this cute little guy smiling at me :)

This box was actually made for some challenges that Laurie Wilson issues to the DT. Some of the Challenges that I combined to make this card were: make a box, make something that dangles, and use something clear. The box is kind of self explanatory and it comes from a wonderful tutorial by Lauren Meader. I also made a sweet little gift tag that dangles off the side of the box and my something clear was the large amount of Crystal Effects that I used to make the glossy water.

I couldn't have this little fellow homeless, so to go with my arctic scene I tried my hand at making an igloo...of the paper and glitter variety. I actually used 3 different sizes of Nestabilities to create the circles of the igloo and then cut them slightly larger than half. I added some Sookwang adhesive and then coated then half circles with my glitter. On the back of the circles I drew some lines to make up the ice blocks and then cut each of the pieces out. I then sponged some ink around each individual piece and then put my homemade puzzle back together again. This was time consuming but so well worth the effect in my books :)




I have to say that I think that this is one of the most fun 3D projects that I have made in a long time! Card Gift Set for Gram

Here it is in all it's glory...Gram's Birthday Gift Card Set. It's my Gram's Birthday today and I have been working on this for the last few days :) I promised up some photos for your viewing pleasure so here they are *wink* Would you believe that the main images are stickers? I know! I didn't believe it at first that a sticker could look this good on a card until I was shopping at Crafty Capers. One of the card class instructors was putting together some cards for a display board and I wanted one of the stamps that she was showcasing. She laughed and told me that they were Penny Black Stickers coated with a sticky strip and then covered in Glitter Ritz Warm Translucent Glitter! I nearly fell over! I was so excited that I immediately bought some to create this lovely gift set.



Let me start off by showing you the cool box that holds this gift set. I purchased one of Lauren Meader's (My Time) All Boxed Up Downloadable Templates from Papertrey Ink. and printed it off right onto my cardstock. Lauren and Nichole are pure genius marketing these templates!! I have purchased all of them so far and I just love the possibilities of them :) I included an altered RSVP Pen in the set so that Gram could sign her cards.



Here is the grouping of 4 coordinating cards that belong inside the fun gift packaging. Pardon my really crummy photo editing! I was in a hurry to get these edited before my husband left for work. For this entire set I only used 3 colours plus the sheet of stickers. I pulled these colours out of the images and paired them up with some K&Co. DP that I already had on hand. Some of the elements that I tried to keep the same on every card were: Kaiser Pearls, Organdy Ribbon, Martha Stewart Scallop Punch and the colours.



It is very hard to tell in these photos, but the images are completely covered in glitter and really shine! Each card has a different layout and I left them blank so that they could be used for any occasion. My Gram is always asking me about my cards and she used to buy them from a local gift shop without telling me so that she could send them out to family and friends. I no longer sell them locally so I wanted to make a set of cards just for her.


All of these cards have been machine stitched, sponged and some what dimensional. I popped up some of the layers so that they didn't look so flat. I cuttlebugged all of the very vanilla card stock and each card has a piece of designer paper on it. I love how the blues look warm next to the vanilla.



Here is a picture of my Gram cutting a rug at my brother's wedding reception last month. At almost 80 years old, she still has more energy than I do! Happy Birthday Gram and I hope that you enjoy your gift set :) Love you!

A Christmas Candle

I have always wanted to try a stamped candle after seeing so many beautiful ones on Splitcoast! I don't know about in the US, but in Canada the retail stores start putting out Christmas Decorations on November 1st since Thanksgiving is already finished here. I was running some errands and doing a little shopping when I was reminded about all the gorgeous Christmas candles that are already making their appearances. That of course led me to follow this tutorial to create my own!



I was actually surprised at how easy it was! I used one of the Our Daily Bread Designs November releases called Joy to the World to create my Christmas candle. I really wanted to create a little gift box for it that had some resemblance of a manger and this is what I came up with! lol

I used one of Lauren Meader's new MyTimeless Templates to create the box. Before I assembled it used the Direct to Paper technique to create my wood grain :) So fast and easy! I really didn't want to add too much in way of decoration to the box, because I wanted the highlight of it to be my Christmas candle. I think that these would make fabulous Christmas Gifts for my kid's preschool teachers :) Go ahead -You know you want to try one!! :)

We Three Kings Luminary

This is my attempt at a luminary that I found from Mel over at Mel Stampz. Here is the Tutorial for the original design :) I chose to use my Our Daily Bread Designs set called We Three Kings because it casts such a beautiful silhouette when it is cast with lighting behind it :)


The Wise Men have been watercoloured with re-inkers and the background vellum has been sponged with classic inks, pierced and highlighted with my Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pen. The star has been stamped on vellum, coloured with markers and secured with crystal effects.

I highly recommend trying one of these because they are breath taking when lite up from behind - just to be on the safe side I recommend one of the battery powered tea lights so that you don't create a fire hazard! This luminary also folds up beautifully and would make a lovely gift for someone :)

Think Pink with Our Daily Bread Designs

When Our Daily Bread Designs released the set called Hope, I was very thankful. This set can be used for many different causes, but I chose to stick with the "Think Pink" theme. Breast cancer has unfortunately affected our family for years.


Shortly after Bill and I got engaged, my mother in law found a lump in breast. 10 long months later, she finished the last of her radiation treatments one week before our wedding - we were so thankful to have her there for our big day! Linda was back to work in no time and feeling like she was in remission and on top of the world until our son was a year old.

She started going for more tests and had found that the cancer had silently crept into her bones. Through this, Linda tried to keep working, looking after her dogs and the family all while refusing to be a victim (she could be a little stubborn :)

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer Linda made the most that she could with the little time that she had and helped us to welcome our daughter into the world and celebrate her first birthday, Christmas and Easter before passing away in her sleep. My children were young at the time and will only remember her by a few memories and the abundance of shared stories and family photos. May 15th, 2008 marked the one year anniversary of Linda's passing.



When I got the Hope set into my hands, the first thing I thought about creating was something that I would see daily - every time I see a pink ribbon, I can't help but think of Linda. I made a desk note pad because I forever have sticky notes stuck all over the house and also made a coordinating journal with the papers that Kelley sent me to keep by my computer. I am always in need of scraps of paper and this way I will have organization and memories all in the same place :)


This set is a wonderfully versatile as you can change the colour of the ribbon for many different causes and the scriptures still match. The scriptures are incredibly inspirational and comforting, perfect for positive thinking!
